Athens Bicycle Club Meeting, February
8, 2000
Present: Joey Boyle, Tim Creamer, Ryan Curtiss, Meredith
Erlewine, Don Harse, Malcolm Idleman, Peter Kotses, Chip Krieg,
Eileen Schulz, Paul Schulz, Bob West
Next meeting: Wed., Feb. 23 at Paul Schulz's house (6449
Luhrig Road) at 7 p.m.
1. Club dues.
The club discussed instituting dues, which will be $5 and include
membership/voting rights.
2. Insurance.
Paul Schulz will look into what level of insurance the club needs,
particularly for Tour of the Hocking and other official club-related
events. The club discussed whether or not there is a liability issue
regarding our unofficial Sunday rides. We may need to ask a lawyer
about this.
3. Mission statement.
The club agreed on a mission statement:
To enjoy and promote bicycling and related issues.
4. Club structure.
The club decided that four people must be present to constitute
a meeting. Anyone may suggest an agenda item for an upcoming meeting
or bring up a topic at a meeting. If an item requires vote, the
club will vote on it at the following meeting, giving those not
present an opportunity to learn about the issue and vote.
The club voted on the following officers:
Co-Presidents: Chip Krieg and Paul Schulz. The co-presidents will
share presidential duties and can substitute for one another if
one is not available.
Webmaster: Tim Creamer
Spiritual Advisor: Don Harse
Secretary: Meredith Erlewine
The committee discussed voting for Tom Wolf as treasurer, but Tom
was not present at the meeting. This will be discussed at a later
meeting.
Officers were elected for a one-year term but may resign at any
time if they feel it is necessary.
5. Tour of the Hocking (TOH)
The club decided to form a TOH subcommittee due to the amount of
work involved with the tour.
Malcolm Idleman will serve as chairman of the TOH committee, assisted
by Peter Kotses and Paul Schulz.
Malcolm will come up with a list of related tasks and bring it
to the next club meeting; he, Peter and Paul will divide up the
duties.
The club discussed possibly renting a U-haul this year for carrying
the camping equipment. We may increase the tour limit to 60 participants
this year.
Tim Creamer volunteered to host the post-tour drop-off gathering
at his house at 185 Grosvenor St.
6. Tour of Zaleski
The club discussed planning a second tour in mid summer. The proposed
Saturday-Sunday mountain bike tour would consist of a back-road
ride to Lake Hope State Park, where we would lead rides highlighting
the mountain bike trails there. Participants would have the choice
of group camping at the primitive campsite or renting cabins
(if they're available). We would arrange for a catered meal on Saturday
night, and Sunday's ride back to Athens would highlight the Hockhocking
Adena Bikeway.
Suggestions regarding the proposed tour are encouraged.
The proposed dates are Aug. 19 and 20. The club will vote at the
next meeting.
7. Lake Hope trails
There is a regular trail maintenance day scheduled for Sat., Feb.
26. Those interested in participating should contact Paul Schulz
for more information.
There is a major trail building day scheduled for the weekend of
April 15, with camping and riding planned as well. This event is
aimed at bringing attention to the work being done at the park and
the club will try to encourage an excellent turnout. The club will
discuss this at the next meeting.
