Athens Bicycle Club Meeting, January
29 2001
Present: Tim Creamer, Meredith Erlewine, Malcolm Idleman, Chip Kreig,
Peter Kotses, Paul Schulz, Mac Strickland
Next meeting: Mon., March 5, 7:15 p.m. at Tim
Creamer’s house
1. Bike Trailer
The club has purchased a B.O.B. bicycle trailer for hauling trail
maintenance equipment.
Paul spoke with Lake Hope Park Manager Rod Garey, who said the club
can store the trailer and tools at the cabin laundry facilities
(near the vacation cabins).
It was suggested that the club also purchase a safety orange vest
and a water jug for use with the trailer.
2. Trail Maintenance
Paul spoke with Rod about bypassing the wet area at the mountain
bike trail head. Rod suggested graveling the entrance of the mountain
bike trail head. The club will discuss this and report back to Rod.
Rod offered that the park can make wooden trail head signs. The
club discussed whether we should put our club name or logo on them,
in order to identify them as trails built by volunteer cyclists.
A stamp was suggested, and club members will discuss what the stamp
should say at the next meeting.
Mac suggested that a muddy section of Lake Trail needs maintenance.
Other club members noted that Lake Trail is the park’s official
territory, out of the club’s trail-building jurisdiction. Mac
will e-mail a description of the problem area and suggestions for
repairing it to Paul, who will propose the ideas to Rod.
The club logged 60 hours of volunteer help at a Jan. 20 work party.
3. February Work Party
The club planned a work party for Feb. 24 to prepare for the March
work party. Meet at 9 a.m. at Athens Bicycle.
4. March Work Party
A major work party is planned for March 10-11, with camping at the
Habron trail head group camping site.
Meet at Athens Bicycle at 9:30 a.m.
5. April Work Party
The club set a work party for April 14, and will discuss plans at
the March club meeting.
6. IMBA Membership
The club agreed to renew the club’s IMBA membership ($30).
Pete and Paul will handle the paperwork.
7. Tour of the Hocking
To be held Memorial Day weekend this year (Sunday and Monday), this
will be the 30th anniversary of the Tour of the Hocking.
Paul has reserved the campground, and Peter will mail the applications
to past participants. The application also will include information
about club dues and club T-shirt availability.
8. Club Jerseys
Tim has the jerseys and design, both ready to go to the printer.
Pete gave Tim the list of people who are waiting for jerseys.
